She Can Smile

Jean's serene and pleased
to be around today
but as she sits upon the stoop she wonders
why she doesn't always feel quite this way
it seems like every day she's deeper underground

when the light from the day goes down
she can smile and it makes her astounded
it's a game

later on she settles into the routine
where there's a certain kind of liberation
sees an old acquaintence in a magazine
and is reminded she forgot to take a shower

now that things are all sorted out
in the buisness that everyone goes about
while the sugar-plum world goes round
